1st stop niagara falls

I’ve never taken an international vacation with my son, although it’s been on my mind for a few years. So last March, I thought we would start small and go to Niagara Falls, Ontario.

Being a single mom I tend to be frugal, so I tried to think of the best way to go about and pay for the trip. I decided to look into Groupon, it was my first time using it, but I had seen good deals before. I found a package for the Hilton Niagara Falls/Fallsview Hotel & Suites. It included the breakfast buffet for each morning, two free ice creams at the ice cream shop in the lobby, a coupon for $50 off two adult entrees from Brasa Brazilian Steakhouse (which we didn’t use), and a wine tour (which we didn’t use). The breakfast buffet would have been around $20 for each morning without the voucher. We also flew into Buffalo, and drove across the border which was cheaper then flying into Canada.
The hotel took a little while to find but once we got there it was great. I decided on roof top parking which was $14 a day over valet or covered, which was about $18 – 25. I do have to say the valet staff was truly the nicest staff members in the entire hotel.

The room was nicer than I expected. The Groupon was for a couple and you could tell the room was meant for one too. The bathroom had a window that opened into the room which was very entertaining for my son. Unfortunately, there was a $8 per device per day WiFi fee in the hotel. Thankfully, since the hotel was close to the US border I got cell reception without roaming.

We spent a day and a half in Niagara Falls walking up and down Clifton Hill, in and out of arcades, riding the WEGO bus, and just enjoying the scenery.

The last meal we ate in Niagara Falls was probably the cheapest and most relaxing. It was at Johnny Rockets in the bottom of the Casino Niagara Falls Ontario. If I had known about the food court sooner we probably would’ve eaten almost all our meals there.

All together I would say it was a successful first international vacation!
