Driving 8 hours can be dreadful for anyone but when your doing it by yourself with a child it can be a bit more challenging. You end up stopping to stretch your legs or use the restroom more then if it was just you. So a 8 hour trip can turn into 11 hours. Here are a couple things that have been very helpful on our road trips.
Pack a portable iPad/DVD player
iPads are to road trips like lollipops are to airplanes, you don’t want your child to have to much, but you know its for the best. Kids love to watch TV whether we want to admit it or not. It’s a great distraction and it make the time go by faster for them. It also reduces the amount of “are we there yet”s.
Quick Rest Stops
If you have to use the bathroom and there’s no rest stop close and your anything like me and don’t want to use a gas station bathroom. Starbucks is the place to go. If you need a quick caffeine fix or just a snack its a great place to stop and stretch your legs. Now I don’t really eat fast food but have found Chick-fil-a to have clean restrooms.
If your planning on stopping for the night book a hotel ahead of time especially if your travelling alone. This gives you a stopping point and saves you the hassle of getting turned away by full hotels.
Always remember Don’t Text and Drive! Arrive Alive!
