detour to castillo de san marcos

On our current adventure south we decided to take a detour off of I95 once we reached Florida. We stopped in Saint Augustine, one of the oldest continually occupied European settlements in the continental United States.

We visited Castillo de San Marcos it was very beautiful and educational visit. We learned how it was build by the Spanish then occupied by the British. Then returned to Spain after the American revaluation, but came under US control in 1821.

We walked the entire perimeter and became fascinated with all the different types of cannons they have on display.

There’s plenty more sites that we could have seen, if we had more time, so I know I will definitely be returning in the future.
